It was under the reign of Napoleon III that the Menier family, owners of the famous chocolate factories, decided to build an exclusive and prestigious apartment building on the plains of Monceau.

The common areas of the building were reserved exclusively for the residents and were designed for special family occasions. The grand ballroom quickly became the city’s most fashionable venue for evening receptions and parties.

In 1929, the renovated premises were unveiled by the President of the Republic Gaston Doumergue as the new home of the Académie Diplomatique Internationale.

The Académie was founded along with Chatham House in London and the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, as one of the world’s first independent institutions devoted to international affairs, with the purpose of promoting the value embodied by the League of Nations.

Today, the Académie, which is proud to count 93 nations as members, is actively engaged in addressing many of the critical diplomatic issues confronting our world today.
